DEBRIS STATION , video installaion, 2 channels, 26 minutes loop, 2023

Hamidrasha Gallery, Tel Aviv. Curators: Omer Sheizaf and Yoav Weinfeld (Offnobank)

“Debris Station” is a video installation which transforms Hamidrasha gallery into a broadcasting station. The space looks like an event had recently occurred in it. A documentation of the event is shown on screens - a lecture I gave to an audience.

The lecture focuses on my ongoing research of the propaganda strategies in Israeli politics, while infiltrating into the election campaign of the “Yisrael Beiteinu” party. I focus on the social media managers of “Halikud” and “Yisrael Beiteinu'' parties and I mediate my experience and thoughts from spending time within their realm. I emphasizing the artistic, bohemian roots among some of them, and trashy or esoteric among others.

The station is operated by remote controlled PTZ cameras. As part of the installation, the space includes an editing broadcast setup. The cameraman / live editor (Jonathan Omer Mizrahi) becomes a performer as well, and plays an integral role in the work. The video combines found footage with scenes that I filmed with a security camera in an apartment building, where I appear alongside non-actor friends in a trashy, violent scene.

I examine the meeting point between esoteric phenomena with mainstream power structures. In which manner images that we perceive as marginal can construct our conception of reality and form a political agenda? I collect visual waste and contemplate on different modes of representation, pointing out the thin line between the radical and the populistic.

*Debris – Scattered pieces of waste or remains of an explosion, accident or crash.
